The global foresight project “T4<2° – Transport for under two degrees” aims at predicting how the transport sector will evolve until mid-century and seeks to provide the necessary policy solutions for a successful transport transformation. Thereby, the project particularly focuses on the international framework conditions and the role of foreign policy for a global mobility transformation.
The project is jointly implemented by GIZ, Agora Verkehrswende and the World Economic Forum on behalf of the German Federal Foreign Office. As the global transport transformation is multidimensional, the project will shed light on a variety of important aspects, such as (digital) technologies, supply with energy and raw materials, infrastructure needs, financing and economic implications, required policy action, the role of international relations, as well as questions of acceptance and equity.
In the first phase of the project, more than 60 international experts have been interviewed on the future of mobility and what action has to be taken to ensure a successful transformation. This interim report sums up the most prominent insights from the interviews. As a next step, a two-round Delphi survey will be designed based on the interviews. The survey will be directed at a wide range of stakeholders and experts from the transport and related sectors. The findings of the Delphi survey will be translated into recommendations for action, addressed to decision-makers in transport and foreign policy.
