Job Description
We are now looking for a dynamic and experienced Global Head of Business Development to lead SNV’s global business development strategy and operations. A strategic, empathetic leader who will lead the global Business Development team of 15-20 dedicated professionals, coordinating and supporting global sector and country teams, fostering partnerships and securing funding for new programmes and projects. The Head of Business Development leads SNV’s market and prospect development process. (S)he develops business strategies and global partnerships and oversees day-to-day business development operations including market development, proposal and budget development and contracting. (S)he is owner of the business development policy and procedures, and initiates improvements and changes to the Business Development strategy and practice. Reporting to the Managing Director/CFO, the Global Head Business Development acts as a partner to the Managing Board and other relevant senior management including Country Directors. The new Head of Business Development will be joining at an exciting time for SNV. Our current strategic cycle is coming to an end and the organisation will be entering a new phase of growth and expansion. SNV is adapting to the new realities post COVID-19 and a dynamic and rapidly evolving market. We will more proactively involve in new and innovative partnerships, building on our strengths: our long-term presence in the countries we work in, and in-depth knowledge and expertise in Food, Energy and Water systems, and in Youth Employment. The Global Head of Business Development is part of SNV’s Extended Management Team. Key Responsibilities • Business Development Strategy and Policy development, leads the development, planning, implementation, review and execution of global BD strategy, policies and procedures, in line with the SNV strategy, taking into account external developments and best practices. • Market intelligence – Ensures the gathering of market intelligence, analysis and advice on positioning, partnerships, products and services and new business development. Coordinates the identification, building and prioritisation of a pipeline of funding opportunities. • Relations management – Builds, maintains and keeps overview of key donor relationships, and lead and supports the expansion of SNV’s key relationships and strategic partnerships across sectors and countries. • Prospect development - Provides leadership on the services of the business development team to global sector and country teams on proposal and budgets development in compliance with internal policy, procedures and external requirements. • Analysis and reporting - oversees high quality analysis, monitoring and reporting, ensuring effective gathering and reporting of market and business development management information. Responsible for the annual BD Performance and Outlook Reports. • Team management - Organises, recruits, develops and motivates team members, recruiting consultants where applicable. ensuring high standard service levels of the global BD team.
Qualifications
• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline. • Proven track record with extensive years of experience in business development (and/or institutional fundraising / resource mobilisation) working in multiple countries and in an international context. • Experience in an international non-profit development organisation or consultancy firm. • In-depth understanding of international development aid architecture and funding modalities of European bi-lateral donors is required. Proven record in coordinating and/or managing multi-disciplinary proposal development. • Strong relevant external network and excellent networking and interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with key clients and stakeholders at all levels. • Extensive experience in managing large teams and demonstrated qualities of leadership. High level of energy, initiative and flexibility in quickly adjusting to changing work programme requirements within a matrix organisation. • Entrepreneurial, coalition builder, result-oriented and driver for change. • Excellent English communication skills, with French an additional asset. • Ability to work in culturally diverse, international setting
