Description
The energy transition depends on resources. The way those resources are managed will shape energy security, industrial development, sustainability, equity and long-term resilience.

The UNECE Resource Management Week 2026 will bring together policymakers, experts, industry, international organizations and other stakeholders to examine how energy and mineral resources can be managed more sustainably in support of the 2030 Agenda and the transition to net zero.

The Week will feature:

  • The 17th session of the Expert Group on Resource Management (EGRM-17)
  • The 21st session of the Group of Experts on Coal Mine Methane and Just Transition (CMMJT-21)
  • The 13th session of the Group of Experts on Gas (GEG-13) and a hydrogen workshop.

There will be a strong focus on the application of the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and the United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS), including their role in advancing work on critical minerals, circularity and sustainable resource management.

Discussions across the Week will address:

  • Critical minerals and responsible value chains
  • Methane management and just transition
  • Hydrogen and low-carbon energy pathways
  • Circularity and secondary resources
  • Digital tools, including AI and blockchain
  • Investment alignment and sustainable finance.

The programme will also feature lunchtime side events on:

  • The added value of gender equality in resource management with Sanja Božinovska, *Minister of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources of North Macedonia
  • From COP 30 to COP 31 – Implementation Pathways for Just Transition, Methane, and Critical Minerals
