A new approach to building a participatory and inclusive marketplace for sustainable energy solutions.
IOM invites its partners and stakeholders to invest in a forward-looking vision to collectively address clean energy access in displacement settings, where challenges are seen as business opportunities that also contribute to sustainable development.
Limited access to essential energy services poses challenges for internally displaced people and their host communities, increasing hardships and vulnerability to gender-based violence. The humanitarian energy sector struggles with scalability of solutions due to economic barriers and perceived risks hindering private sector engagement.
Supported by Innovation Norway and NORCAP, together with three private actors (C-Quest Capital, Green Light Africa, Epsilon Energia Solar) and one NGO (Mercy Corps), IOM introduced improved cookstoves and solar home systems for the productive use of energy in five resettlement sites, while exploring the power of subsidies and carbon financing.
This 2-day workshop in Maputo seeks to share lessons learnt, facilitate discussions, discover further opportunities, and develop new models for cross-sector collaboration with the aim of facilitating economic and gender empowerment of displaced communities and their hosts, and local business growth through.
clean energy access. Online participation will be available as in-person spots will be limited.
