Description
As the COP29 Presidency urges governments to support a six-fold increase in energy storage and expand or upgrade 80 million km of electric grids, the Carbon Trust and the Green Grids Initiative invite you to a high-level event to discuss how this can be achieved. The event will aim to engage public and private financial institutions and raise awareness about the critical investments needed to support Global Grid Targets.

As we move towards net zero, scaling renewable energy generation is essential, but often overlooked is the corresponding investment needed in grid infrastructure. Global grids must double in size, requiring over $700 billion annually by 2030 to support the electrification of transport, industry, and other sectors. Public and private financiers are key in making this vision a reality.

This event seeks to:

· Raise awareness of the vital role grids play in the energy transition

· Discuss the substantial investments needed to support the transformation of grid infrastructure

· Encourage feedback and support for the global grids commitment

Topics will include:

· Why Grids Matter – Understanding the essential role of grids in the future energy landscape

· Financing Grids – Exploring the range of financial interventions required

· Commitment to Global Grids – Announcing Global Grid Targets and encouraging financial sector support
