With over 80% of the SDGs directly linked to climate, maximizing synergies between the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement could amplify co-benefits, reduce trade-offs, and optimize resource allocation, potentially multiplying impacts and bridging investment gaps. Yet, synergistic action remains limited, with interlinked global crises often addressed in silos, presenting a missed opportunity for a potential course correction toward equitable, inclusive, and fair 1.5°C transition pathways. With upcoming years pivotal for changing trajectory amid deepening crises and ever-tightening timeframes, leveraging synergies is key to unlocking the momentum needed to drive progress on climate action and sustainable development.
The Sixth Synergies Conference will bring together leading experts and representatives from countries and UN institutions, as well as multi-stakeholder groups such as businesses, youth, civil society and marginalized communities, to advance discussions on how to accelerate synergistic action that tackles both climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals. Key issues will include how best to use the next round of national climate commitments (NDCs 3.0) under the Paris Agreement to integrate SDG action, and how to mobilize urgently needed finance for both climate and the SDGs, including at the upcoming Finance for Development Conference (FfD4). This will be an opportunity to bring together diverse perspectives toward developing recommendations that could feed into some of these critical 2025 milestones. Register by 18 April 2025 to join the conversation!
