Innovative grids target the large space between Solar Home Systems and Mini Grids and should be deployed in areas where a standard Mini-Grid can’t be financially viable, and a basic electrification via SHS would only partially address the population's energy needs.
This new funding window aims to:
- Support the development and deployment of innovative grid solutions that address the needs of low-revenue, underserved areas.
- Test the feasibility and affordability of these technologies in a pilot phase before scaling up with larger funding.
- Identify sustainable grant levels required to achieve high levels of penetration while delivering reliable electricity that customers need and can afford.
- Assess business models and technical approaches that enable rapid deployment and operational scalability.
Eligible companies are encouraged to submit their proposals by 28th February 2026.
