Abstract
According to this report from the UN Secretary-General, progress in every area of SDG 7 is slow. There are still 1.06 billion people worldwide (predominantly in rural areas) that do not have access to electricity and more than 3 billion people (mainly in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa) that do not have access to clean cooking fuels and other efficient technologies. On the positive side, the share of renewable energy in final energy consumption grew from 17.9% in 2012 to 18.3% in 2014. In addition, the world’s 20 largest energy-consuming countries reduced their energy intensity (2012-2014).
