Energypedia is a wiki-based platform for collaborative knowledge exchange on renewable energy and energy efficiency in developing countries. Securing access to modern and sustainable energy services for developing countries is a significant challenge for development. Access to sustainable energy services can power opportunities for environmental, social and economic development.

Yet today one in five people worldwide lack access to electricity, while every third person cooks on unhealthy fireplaces. First-hand knowledge on modern and sustainable energy solutions often only exists locally or in fragments and is thus difficult for individuals to access. There is a great need to facilitate and expand the diffusion of these technologies in developing countries through practical knowledge exchange and collaboration.

Recognizing that development in the 21st century requires that all actors have access to information, energypedia is working to leverage Web 2.0 technologies to remove knowledge barriers and expand the diffusion of information addressing the topics renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable energy access for all. Through the platform we strive to create the right environment and provide the right tools for stakeholders engaged in the energy sector to collaborate, create and share knowledge and practical experience.

On energypedia.info any registered user can easily create, modify and share content. The platform currently includes 11,886 free articles, contributed by the growing community of 12,816 registered users made up of energy practitioners, experts, academics and other interested stakeholders.
