Fuel Pricing Policies

Local Currency: BIF
Exchange Rate: 1210.13

(2010/11/17)

Last Update:

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism is responsible for setting fuel prices.

On the ministries website, however, no information about fuel prices and fuel pricing mechanisms could be found.

An internet article (→App. A1) states, that there are fuel subsidies in Burundi. Due to this article (date is missing, probably from 2009), the subsidy for diesel or gasoline was approx. 800 BIF (32% of long price). However, it is unclear if or to which extent fuel is still subsidized (as of Dec. 2010).

Another internet article (→App. A3) states, that in mid-October 2010 the first price increase in 2010 took place. It can be assumed, that prices are only changed a couple of times a year. (It also can be derived, that the ministry does publish press statements concerning these issues; however, none could be found on the internet.)
