| The GIZ programme [http://www.giz.de/expertise/html/2769.html HERA - Poverty-Oriented Basic Energy Services] promotes access to renewable energy and their sustainable and efficient use. On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) GIZ has supported the dissemination of energy-saving technology and adapted energy supply solutions for 30 years. With its help 2.5 million efficient stoves have been successfully produced and sold in the last six years alone. These stoves save up to 60 per cent of the biomass that would otherwise be required and produce virtually no smoke. Small domestic solar systems, biogas and micro hydropower can also help meet the basic energy needs of households, social institutions and small businesses.

Their approach focuses on concepts for a decentralized energy supply on household or community level, where production and consumption of energy are spatially interlinked. Going beyond the technical artifacts, the approach looks at energy systems as socio-technical systems embedded in a social, political, economical and ecological environment. Their focal point is the user – meaning that research questions are directly or indirectly derived from users’ needs and the question how to address them with appropriate energy solutions.

Green People's Energy for Africa

Green People's Energy for Africa – Mozambique Green People’s Energy aims to improve the conditions for decentralised energy supply in rural areas in selected African countries, involving both citizens and companies. To this end, GBE is working in nine countries across sub-Saharan Africa, including Mozambique. In addition to our country-based measures, GBE also support cross-national charitable projects and strengthen partnerships between players in Europe and Africa.

Strategic Partnership

Logo GIZ.gif

In June 2017, energypedia and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) signed a strategic partnership agreement on “Digitalization and Energy”. This partnership aims to promote digital knowledge exchange and sharing as well as technology transfer in the field of renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy access topics.

This strategic partnership will facilitate increased collaboration between energypedia and GIZ energy projects in the following areas: global knowledge management, digital documentation of knowledge generated and communication of good practices from GIZ projects, joint webinars and answering questions from GIZ projects through the energypedia community (crowdsourcing).

Should you be interested in collaborating with us, please feel free to contact us at info@energypedia.info.

Networks and Partners

Off-grid.png

The OFF-GRID Expo + Conference (OEC for short) in Augsburg is the only neutral congress trade fair in Europe for technologies for off-grid energy supply and use. The practice-oriented format with an English-language conference, trade fair and the community network happening takes place every 2 years. With its know-how transfer, the OEC directly contributes to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition to affordable and clean energy (SDG 7) and access to clean drinking water (SDG 6), the goals of economic growth (SDG 8), sustainable consumption (SDG 12) and climate protection (SDG 13) are on the agenda. Launched as a workshop in 2011, the event steadily attracted more participants and sparked increasing enthusiasm, including among exhibitors and event partners. Since 2020, the Alliance for Rural Electrification has been the official conference partner of the Off-Grid Expo+Conference.

Since 2018, energypedia is one of the Official Observers to the United Nations Framework on the Convention on Climate Change.

Energypedia is a part of the following networks to promote sustainable and clean energy for all. It collaborates with its partners and networks to create new knowledge products and to promote digital knowledge sharing and exchange, in the realm of renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy access.

ARE

The Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) is an international business association that promotes a sustainable decentralised renewable energy industry for the 21st century, activating markets for affordable energy services, and creating local jobs and inclusive economies.

UNITAR-GPA

UNITAR is the capacity building and training branch of the United Nations, and hosts the Global Platform for Action (GPA) on Humanitarian Energy Secretariat. The GPA is a UN-led global platform to foster concrete actions to ensure that all displaced and host communities enjoy access to sustainable, reliable, affordable and modern energy by 2030, aligned with the SDG 7. The platform works in five thematic areas of planning, advocacy and policy, innovative financing, technical expertise and data, to address current challenge and barriers impeding energy access in displacement contexts.

Logo Outsight.png

Outsight International builds teams based around the specific needs of a project. Much like a Hollywood movie builds its production teams to match the right talent with a particular production, Outsight compiles the right expertise to tackle the unique and complex challenge. Outsight has a proven track record of delivering projects, working with clients to complete our project deliverables through a blend of Associates, Advisors and Strategic Partners who are global leaders in their energy sub-sectors. We also look to utilise our network of strategic partnerships with leading Humanitarian & Development Energy actors to create the best value possible for our clients, for example:

  • Refugee Energy Experts embedded in Refugee & Internal Displacement Camps
  • Global Energy Expert Networks & Rosters
  • World Leading Research Funders, Think Tanks and Institutions

Ultimately, we look to facilitate a sector wide transition from euro-centric organisations being drivers of change, to supporters of change driven by the voices of the displaced and marginalised.
